Cá Bhfuil Na Gaeilg eoirí? (Ble mae'r siaradwyr Gwyddeleg?)

5.1.07

Mae erthygl yn y Guardian gan Manchán Magan, sef cyflwynydd rhaglen No Béarla ar TG4 yn Iwerddon. Mae'r rhaglen yn dilyn fformat tebyg iawn i Popeth yn Gymraeg, wrth i Manchán fynd o gwmpas Iwerddon yn defnyddio'r iaith Wyddeleg yn unig. Yn ôl ei erthygl, nid chafodd chystal ymateb ar y cafod Ifor ap Glyn, ond fel mae Nic yn dweud, efallai bod gan arddull Manchán a'r ffaith bod y camra'n guddiegid rhywbeth i'w wneud a'r peth (wel, yn ôl Rhifyn 1, 2 a 3 ar YouTube beth bynnag - bit nad yw wedi eu tagio'n fwy cyson!).

Dyma bigion o'r ymatebion (ond darllennwch yr erthygl i gael y cyd-destun)

Wrth geisio prynnu map mewn swyddfa Ordnance Survey Office (sefydliad rhannol-gyhoeddus):
"Do you speak English?" he asked in a cold, threatening tone. "Sea," I said, nodding meekly. "Well, can you speak English to me now?" I told him as simply as I could that I was trying to get by with Irish.

"I'm not talking to you any more," he said. "Go away."

Wrth ofyn am gyfarwyddiadau yng Nghanolfan Ymwelwyr Dulyn:

I explained what I was trying to do. "Well, mate, I don't actually speak Irish, so ... " he paused menacingly and I tried to smile encouragingly, "so, If you speak English, I'll be able to understand what you're saying."

"Béarla only - English only," said his supervisor, standing sternly behind him, repeating it a second time in case I was slow.
Does dim lot am No Béarla ar Blogger Blog Search, Technorati na Irishblogs.ie (well ddim yn Saesneg ta beth), ond efallai bydd mwy wedi i'r gyfres ddechrau (nos Sul yma).

Tra'n chwilota, dois ar draws blogiwr sydd wedi bod yn e-bostio banciau yn Iwerddon yn holi beth yw eu polisi iaith Gwyddeleg.

I have my own theories on the show and on the presenter. Was going wait until the first episode aired before posting on it….
